Make Your Miles Matter !
Although there’s no obligation to fundraise in order to race in the Mass Dash, we ask all of our teams to try to raise $1000 per team (that's only $170 per runner!). And if your team raises $2500 or more for the Jimmy Fund (not including "Big" teams), our corporate Race Partners will pay for and refund your team’s registration fee! It’s ours and their way to thank you for working hard to raise funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in our fight against cancer…
We’d like to share an excerpt from an article that Tim Loh, a runner and Sweaty Mussels team captain, wrote for the Fairfield (CT) Citizen following the first Mass Dash:
“Several days have passed and my muscles are no longer sweaty. But they certainly ache, a sensation which I relish. As I write this report, I'm reminded of the many moments of pain and doubt, when I wasn't sure completing the Mass Dash would happen. Stepping out of a tree-surrounded lake in the Savoy Mountain State Forest early Saturday afternoon, I recall telling my team members that, if this were a reality show, I'd tell the backroom cameras: "No way we're gonna make it, man. The course is too long. The hills are too high." But a funny thing happened in the hours afterwards, though. We gradually transformed from a cluster of not-exactly-marathon-ready runners into a fully supportive, self-sacrificing, overachieving squad. Drawing strength from each other’s courage, we started conquering hills and miles that looked utterly unachievable on Saturday at sunrise. And this, as we grew progressively more tired. And the cause is what got us to the finish. That's one way to fight cancer.”
Thanks, Tim! And thank you all. We hope to see you at Mount Greylock on Saturday, July 16th! In four years, over 2500 runners and volunteers have joined in the Mass Dash, and have raised almost $500,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The experience will leave you absolutely breathless--- in more ways than you can imagine!
