Registration Info

Overview

The Mass Dash will take place on Saturday, July 16th, 2016.  A team adventure relay race with a very significant purpose, the Mass Dash will bring together hundreds of runners, sharing their time, their thoughts and themselves while racing across western Massachusetts on a summer day, all dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support family, friends and neighbors in the fight against cancer…

Starting after sunrise, teams of six runners each will run 100 miles in a non-stop relay race of eighteen legs across western Massachusetts--- from the foot of Mount Greylock, Massachusetts’ highest point, to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  Along the way, the teams will run through Massachusetts' beautiful state parks, forests and reservations, its storied colleges and universities, and its many historic and picturesque towns and villages.  In five years, 2500 runners and volunteers have joined in the Mass Dash, and have raised over $500,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. 

The experience will leave you absolutely breathless--- in more ways than you can imagine!

Details

Date:  Saturday, July 16, 2016.

Start:  Mount Greylock Visitors Center, Rockwell Road, Lanesborough, Massachusetts.  The teams will start the Mass Dash in staggered groups between 6:00 am and 8:00 am on Saturday morning, based on their most recent individual 10K race times, with the teams having the highest aggregate 10K times starting earlier than those teams having the lowest 10K times.

Finish:  University of Massachusetts Alumni Stadium, Amherst, Massachusetts.  All of the teams are expected to reach the finish of the Mass Dash between 6:00 pm and 12:00 am on Saturday night.

Registration and Fees:  Registration for the 2016 Mass Dash will be limited to the first 100 teams.

No entries will be accepted after June 30, and once registration is paid for the registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Fundraising for the Jimmy Fund:  In addition to each team’s registration fee, we request that each team try to obtain and collect charitable pledges to the Jimmy Fund (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute).  Although there is no obligation to fundraise in order to run in the Mass Dash, if your team raises $2500 or more (not including "Big" teams), your team’s Registration Fee will be paid for by our corporate Race Partners, and refunded to you!  

Cancellation Provision:  If a significant event (weather, terrorism or some other “force majeure”) were to occur immediately prior to or during the scheduled time for the Mass Dash, and state and local government or police authorities deem it unsafe for us to stage the Mass Dash, we will be obligated to cancel the event. Notification of this cancellation will occur through direct e-mail to all team captains and through updates on the Mass Dash website.  Additionally, no refunds will be provided in the event of such a cancellation.  Race shirts will be mailed to each team captain.  Based on the complexity of staging such an event as the Mass Dash, it is not possible to simply postpone the race.

Race Divisions:  Teams may register within any one of the following race divisions, provided the team meets the requirements for the division.

Team Division  Requirements
1. Men's Open Up to 6 runners; men or women
2. Men's Masters Up to 6 runners; all are 40-years of age or older
3. Women's Open Up to 6 runners; all are women
4. Women's Masters Up to 6 runners; all are women and 40-years of age or older
5. Mixed Open Up to 6 runners; one-half (1/2) or more are women
6. Mixed Masters Up to 6 runners; one-half (1/2) or more are women; all are 40-years of age or older
7. High School Open Up to 6 high school runners, boys or girls
8. High School Girls Up to 6 high school runners; all are girls
9. Heroes & Heroines Up to 6 runners; all are members of the military, state or local police, or are fire fighters
10. Big Team 7 to 18 runners of any age and gender

 

Registering a Team:  Only the entry of the Team Captain is required to register a team.  Your teammates can register once the team has been registered and the registration fee has been received.  Please note that registering without paying the registration fee will not reserve your spot in the Mass Dash.

Registering a Runner:  Beginning on October 1, and once your team has been registered by your Team Captain and the registration fee has been received, you may register for the Mass Dash as a runner.

A Last Word on Start and Finish Times:  Team start times will be available on or before July 5.  Failure to fully register your team and all runners before June 30 will prevent us from providing you with a start time.  Please be diligent about having all of your teammates complete the registration process.  Please arrive at the start at the Mount Greylock Visitors Center 60-90 minutes prior to your team’s scheduled start time.  As the race route and finish line will close on Saturday at 11:59 PM, for safety reasons we will not accept the entry of any team which we anticipate may take longer than 18 hours to reach the finish of the Mass Dash.
